Making Tax Digital

Making Tax Digital (MTD)

Making Tax Digital is HMRC’s modernisation programme designed to make tax reporting simpler, more accurate, and fully digital. From 6 April 2026, sole traders and landlords earning over £50,000 will be required to keep digital records and submit quarterly updates to HMRC using approved software. Those earning over £30,000 will follow from April 2027.

MTD replaces the traditional annual Self Assessment return with a streamlined digital process, giving taxpayers a clearer, real‑time view of their tax position and reducing the risk of errors and penalties.
